Small Business Majority joins the Responsible Business Lending Coalition in opposition of Missouri's Commercial Financing Disclosure Act in its current form

On January 23, Small Business Majority Public Policy Director Awesta Sarkash sent a letter on behalf of the Responible Business Lending Coalition to Missouri Senate Committee on Insurance and Banking Chair Sandy Crawford in opposition of SB753 as introduced. The Commerical Financing Disclosure Law fails to include annual percent rate (APR) requirements which would provide small business owners with the transparency they need to make informed decisions about financing products.

Responsible Business Lending Coalition submits amicus brief urging court to uphold state's small business financing disclosure requirements

On September 27, Small Business Majority joined the Responsible Business Lending Coalition in filing an amicus brief, alongside Public Counsel, U.C. Berkeley Center for Consumer Law & Economic Justice, California Association for Microenterprise Opportunity, and the Office of Kat Taylor, before the Central District of California in support of a California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) regulation requiring sales-based financing providers to disclosure their APRs and other costs to small business borrowers.

Small Business Majority submits comments on the Small Business Administration's proposed criminal justice review rule

On November 14, Small Business Majority, alongside 20 business support organizations, submitted comments to the U.S. Small Business Administration in response to their proposed rule that would update eligibility for justice-impacted individuals seeking loans through the Agency. The letter outlines support  for the rule and offers recommendations on how to continue to serve justice-impacted entrepreneurs.

Small Business Speaks: Two Days in Washington with Small Business Majority

On September 26 and 27, Small Business Majority hosted an advocacy fly-in event, “Small Business Speaks: Two Days in Washington with Small Business Majority.” Nearly 30 entrepreneurs from the organization’s national and state Small Business Councils attended the event to build community and ensure that federal policymakers heard the true voice of small business.

Small business owners and advocates sign-on in support of California's truth-in-lending legislation

More than 80 small business owners and advocates signed on to Small Business Majority's letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom in support of passing SB 33, which preserves a cornerstone of SB 1235 by requiring APR disclosure for all commercial financing products. These protections were set to expire in 2024, but SB 33 will eliminate the sunset date and guarantee continued transparency for businesses.

Grant funding for Latino entrepreneurs: Making an impact on the small business ecosystem

In 2022, Small Business Majority, in partnership with Support Latino Business and Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial, awarded critical funding to three Latina business owners through their annual #SupportSmallBiz grant program. The grant program bridges the gap in small business funding for Hispanic and Latino businesses, which often face challenges and systemic barriers in getting the capital and resources they need to start, grow and expand their enterprises.
