Small Business Majority has created a comprehensive state policy agenda to ensure entrepreneurship is at the center of a thriving and inclusive economy in New Mexico. The state’s 1.2 million small businesses comprise 99.6% of all businesses in the state, and they employ 1.7 million residents—nearly half of all Georgia employees.

Small Business Majority testifies on payment accuracy of family and medical leave benefits in Colorado

On March 20, Small Business Majority's Colorado Director Lindsey Vigoda testified before the Colorado House Business Affairs and Labor Committee on SB 24-155. In particular, this legislation will help streamline benefit reimbursements between the Colorado Paid Family and Medical Leave (FAMLI) program and worker’s compensation benefits, ensuring small business owners and their employees are able to accurately access the benefits available to them.

Small Business Majority Supports Paid Family and Medical Leave in Virginia

Today, Public Policy Director, Awesta Sarkash, submitted written testimony in support of HB 737, Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program in Virginia. Ahead of the House Labor and Commerce Committee hearing, Awesta underscored the need for a state-run leave program, which would allow small businesses to offer a modernized and robust benefits package to their employees.

As state policymakers consider a number of proposals for the 2024 legislative session, a new opinion poll reveals that small businesses support a state-administered paid family and medical leave insurance program in New Mexico.

In Georgia, 1.2 million small businesses employ nearly half of the state’s workforce. Many of these small employers want to offer robust benefits like paid and family leave because it helps them compete with bigger businesses for talent. But this benefit carries a high cost that they simply can’t afford on their own while maintaining their bottom lines.
