Small Business Majority and U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce file amicus brief on the importance of reproductive healthcare access for businesses and state economies

Small Business Majority recently filed an amicus brief alongside the U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce, Amalgamated Bank, Argent, Bumble, Inc., KraveBeauty, Levi Strauss & Co., Lyft, Match Group, Inc., and Yelp, in the case Idaho vs. United States which will come before the Supreme Court in April 2024.

In response to the state of Idaho’s decision to criminalize nearly all forms of abortion for medical providers, which directly conflicts with the broader mandated requirements for medical providers under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), the amicus brief argues that restrictions on reproductive healthcare negatively impact state economies, small businesses, and women entrepreneurs who are trying to start and grow their businesses nationwide. Access to reproductive healthcare is critical to our network, in fact, Small Business Majority's most recent poll shows that 57% of women small business owners believe that restrictions to abortion will force women in business to choose between their careers or their reproductive health.
