Senator Kirsten Gillibrand met with entrepreneurs from Small Business Majority̢??‰?s Network Council on Sept. 18 to discuss Family Medical Leave and other key small business issues

Washington, DC̢??‰۝On Wednesday, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand met with business owners from across the country to discuss key small business issues, including Family Medical Leave and its ability to encourage a healthy, productive workforce and bolster small businesses̢??‰? bottom lines.

Scientific opinion polling released by Small Business Majority revealed 80 percent of small employers support the Family Medical Leave Act, which had its 20-year anniversary earlier this year and allows an employee unpaid time off for family or medical reasons such as a serious personal illness, the birth or adoption of a child or to care for a seriously ill family member.

̢???Family medical leave not only provides comfort and security for small businesses in terms of healthcare and medical situations, but establishes a trusting workforce. That leads to greater output and profits,̢???? said Eric Blinderman, owner of Mas (farmhouse) and Mas (la grillade) in New York City. ̢???It shows workers we understand they are not just contributing to the success of our businesses, but to the wellbeing of themselves and their families.̢????

Blinderman is part of Small Business Majority̢??‰?s Network Council̢??‰۝business owners from various industries across the nation who volunteer their time and entrepreneurial expertise to educate policymakers about the biggest issues facing small businesses today. The group was in Washington this week as part of Small Business Majority̢??‰?s 2nd Annual Network Council Trip.

The members of Small Business Majority̢??‰?s Network Council come from 15 states, including: California, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia.
