Statement by John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority, on the creation of the bipartisan Small Business Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives

The bipartisan Small Business Caucus, created by Reps. Chellie Pingree (D-ME) and Scott Tipton (R-CO) to help entrepreneurs succeed and create jobs, is good news for small business owners struggling to stay afloat in this tough economy. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, creating two-thirds of all new jobs and employing nearly half of our workforce. Their role in the future of our country is vital and their voice belongs at the public policy table.

The caucus̢??‰?s primary goals include raising awareness of key small business issues including access to capital, taxes and regulations, and finding legislative solutions to small businesses̢??‰? biggest problems. Small Business Majority̢??‰?s polling has found time and time again that small businesses have strong opinions about policies that can help them put America back to work, and it̢??‰?s imperative lawmakers listen to what they have to say. That̢??‰?s why it̢??‰?s great to see leaders in Washington come together and make small businesses a priority.

It is our hope that this caucus will be another voice for entrepreneurs on Capitol Hill, encouraging lawmakers to do everything in their power to ensure small businesses have the resources they need to expand and thrive. Now is the time to empower our nation̢??‰?s entrepreneurs, because they have the skill, energy and ingenuity to spur our economic growth.
