Events open to all small businesses; chance for entrepreneurs to learn about healthcare law and provide feedback on the marketplaces in Ohio

Columbus, Ohio̢??‰۝The U.S. Small Business Administration, in conjunction with small business organization Small Business Majority, will launch a webinar series today, Thursday, Sept. 25 on the healthcare law̢??‰?s impact to Ohio small businesses and how they can benefit from the new insurance marketplace.

The free webinar series, which is open to all small business owners, will feature the U.S. Small Business Administration̢??‰?s Economic Development Specialist, Barry Peel, and Small Business Majority̢??‰?s Ohio Outreach Manager, Michaela Hahn-Lawson, who will discuss the topics most relevant to small businesses. These include small business tax credits, wellness grants and cost containment provisions.

̢???We believe it̢??‰?s important for small business owners to learn more about the healthcare law and how it affects them,̢???? said Hahn-Lawson. ̢???These interactive dialogues are a great way for small businesses to get the information they need to take advantage of and comply with key provisions of the healthcare law, and for us to get feedback on their thoughts and concerns.̢????

Hahn-Lawson and Peel will provide detailed information on Ohio̢??‰?s health insurance marketplace̢??‰۝an online marketplace where small business owners can pool their buying power to help drive down insurance costs. Ohio̢??‰?s marketplace is currently run by the federal government because state lawmakers chose not to create their own. Hahn-Lawson and Peel will explain how the marketplace functions and how small employers can join.

A question and answer period will follow the discussion.

̢???Access to the new health insurance marketplace will provide new options for many entrepreneurs to obtain health insurance for themselves and their employees. This marketplace will allow small employers to pool their buying power, which will rein in costs and help them better afford health insurance,̢???? said Hahn-Lawson. ̢???Small businesses have been waiting for decades for something to help bring down their costs, and the new marketplaces have the ability to do just that.̢????
