Small Business Majority joins Congressman Tony Cárdenas at Workshop to Help Valley Residents Sign Up For Affordable, Quality Health Insurance

For Immediate Release:
Friday, February 13, 2015

Event conducted in both English and Spanish, open to all small businesses; chance for entrepreneurs to learn about new small business and individual marketplaces, and how to enroll in quality, affordable healthcare in one of the health insurance marketplaces

Van Nuys, Calif.—U.S. Congressman Tony Cardenas (California's 29th District), in conjunction with small business organization Small Business Majority, will host a healthcare workshop Saturday, February 14, 2015, to provide Valley residents an opportunity to learn about health insurance options available under the Affordable Care Act and how they can benefit from California's health insurance marketplace, Covered California (coveredca.com).

"We believe it's important for small business owners to learn more about the healthcare law, California's new marketplace and how it all affects them," said Congressman Tony Cárdenas. "These interactive dialogues are a great way for small businesses to get the information they need to take advantage of and comply with key provisions of the healthcare law, and for us to get feedback on their thoughts and concerns."

The free event, which is open to all small business owners, will feature Small Business Majority's Southern California Outreach Coordinator, Xiomara Peña, who will discuss the topics most relevant to small businesses, including small business tax credits, wellness grants, cost containment provisions and how the marketplace functions for the self-employed.

A question and answer period will follow the discussion. Local bilingual English-Spanish Certified Enrollment Counselors (CEC's), certified insurance agents, healthcare providers and other healthcare experts will be available for assistance.

"There's a tremendous need for Spanish language education in the small business community," said Peña. "The healthcare law contains critical information for small business owners and this event provides an opportunity to explain the healthcare terminology in a business owners' native language. Access to these new options, either the small business portal or the individual marketplace, will provide new options for many more entrepreneurs to obtain health insurance for their families and their employees."

The event will be conducted in both English and Spanish at Pacoima Branch Library, 13605 Van Nuys Blvd, Pacoima, CA and will take place on Saturday, February 14 from 10:00 a.m. — 2:00 p.m. PST.
