For Immediate Release:
Tuesday, April 30, 2013

Detroit-based entrepreneur to participate in White House Climate Change Roundtable on Tuesday, April 30 to discuss how climate change and clean energy policies could impact small businesses

A small business owner in Small Business Majority̢??‰?s Network Council will participate in a Small Business Roundtable Discussion at the White House today to talk about finding solutions to address climate costs and the transition toward a clean energy future.

Michigan entrepreneur Jon Tobias will join Administration officials and small business owners from across the country to talk about how smart clean energy and energy efficiency policies will spur innovation and help business owners save money and grow their companies. All of the small business owners participating in the roundtable have found success through either producing goods or providing services that contribute to an alternative energy economy.

̢???As a small business owner, I am pleased to see the administration focus on energy efficiency and clean energy,̢???? said Jon Tobias, president of Michigan Green Cabs, which has a fleet of fully hybrid cabs, in Wixom, Mich., and a Small Business Majority Network Council member. ̢???High profile discussions like this increase awareness of companies like mine that embrace alternative energy sources. Whenever we see our government embrace clean energy policies, there is a surge in consumer consciousness and support for businesses that adopt cleaner technologies.̢????

A scientific opinion poll Small Business Majority released in 2012 found seven in 10 small business owners agree government has a role in driving our country toward a cleaner, more competitive economy. Small businesses also support continued government investment in clean energy technologies. What̢??‰?s more, when asked about the biggest problems facing their small business, 70 percent of small employers cited the rising costs of doing business̢??‰۝such as increased fuel and electricity prices and higher material and supply costs.

̢???In this tough economy, small businesses are doing their part to invest in new technologies and reduce energy costs,̢???? John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority. ̢???However, they need support from lawmakers. If they want to do what̢??‰?s best for small employers, policymakers will continue to strengthen energy efficiency standards and promote a clean and energy efficient business sector. It̢??‰?s essential if we want to foster a sustainable and successful economy.̢????
