With dropping temperatures and rising energy bills, a reference guide to various energy efficiency programs can help small businesses save money

Small Business Majority released a reference guide today that is jam-packed with information on federal, state and local energy programs and incentives that can help small businesses cut costs and boost their bottom lines at the time of year when energy bills tend to skyrocket. Aimed at helping small employers get a grasp on all things energy related, ‰from the near-effortless task of shaving a few dollars off their electricity bills to the ongoing process of maximizing their facility's energy efficiency, Clean Energy Opportunities for Small Businesses is a free guide that can lead small businesses to major cost savings.

"Making your company more energy efficient is a logical step for any business owner looking to save money, said Lisa Goodbee, owner of Goodbee & Associates in Centennial, Colo. This new resource guide is very helpful because it shows exactly which incentives are available to businesses right here in my area. Small business owners try to think ahead, and energy efficiency is something we know will benefit us in the long run. It pays off for our businesses, and it allows us to re-invest in hiring, new equipment and other things that help us and the economy thrive."

Small business owners know they need to innovate and improve energy efficiency to thrive. In a national poll, Small Business Majority found 87 percent of small business owners believe improving innovation and energy efficiency are good ways to increase prosperity for small businesses. The federal government recognizes this and offers programs that range from incentives to help make businesses more energy efficient to low-interest loans that help small businesses looking to develop new clean energy technologies.

The reference guide released today is meant to show entrepreneurs exactly how to access these programs and incentives. It offers details on how specific opportunities work, provides information on who to contact if small business owners are interested in participating, and offers additional resources that can help them save money, whether they're a wind turbine manufacturer or the local dry cleaner. We know this is an area small employers are interested in: 78 percent of small business owners across all industries have already adopted some energy-efficient and environmentally, friendly practices in their business, according to Small Business Majority's polling.

With help from federal and state governments and a number of private, municipal and cooperative utilities, small businesses have the power to generate their own energy or claim significant rebates for increased energy efficiency, said John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority. And, with the money they can save doing so, they will be better equipped to continue forging a stronger economy, re-investing in their businesses and creating new jobs.
