In honor of the tenth anniversary of California̢??‰?s Paid Family Leave program, Small Business Majority releases FAQ for small business owners

Sacramento, CA. In celebration of the tenth anniversary of California̢??‰?s Paid Family Leave program, Small Business Majority released a comprehensive guide today to help California small business owners understand the state̢??‰?s family leave program and how to take advantage of its benefits. The Paid Family Leave program provides wage replacement benefits to workers who need to take time off from work to bond with a new child or to care for a seriously ill family member. Unfortunately, many employers aren̢??‰?t utilizing the benefits of the program because they simply don̢??‰?t know it exists.

California's Paid Family Leave program helps level the playing field between small businesses that want to offer this benefit but ca't, and their larger counterparts that can, said David Chase, California Director of Small Business Majority. Small employers know policies like this create a happier and more productive staff, which in turn leads to increased productivity. Many small business owners think of their employees as family, so they support policies that enable them to foster a happier workforce while protecting their workers and their bottom line. Our hope is that the guide allows employers, including those who are so busy that they only have a few spare moments, to find the information they need to better understand California's family leave program and take advantage of its benefits.

Polling recently released by Small Business Majority found small business owners support publicly administered family and medical leave insurance pools, paid with payroll contributions by employees.

In addition, Small Business Majority and its partners have been doing a full-court press over the past year to ensure entrepreneurs have all the educational tools they need to understand this law and other family medical leave policies across the country.
