Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:

Today some members of the Senate put politics over good public policy and blocked the long-term reauthorization of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. This cynical move is the latest in a series of political games that deny small businesses the tools they need to encourage innovation, economic growth and job creation. We call on these obstructionists who claim to support small businesses to match their words with deeds and end the blockage of this vital legislation.

Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:

Today Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation that will speed the state's transition to a clean energy economy and spur demand for goods and services many California small businesses provide. The newly signed law, which requires California utilities to get one-third of their electricity from renewable energy sources like solar and wind power by 2020, creates tremendous opportunities for small businesses in the burgeoning clean energy economy. Gov. Brown should be commended for signing this aggressive bill into law.

Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:

The Senate's passage today of legislation fixing the 1099 reporting requirement in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is a huge victory for small business owners worried about the burden this provision would create. After months of debate, lawmakers should be applauded for their bipartisan efforts to fix this unnecessary provision. Once the president signs the legislation it will allow entrepreneurs to focus on what they do best, creating jobs and growing our economy.

Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:

Two amendments introduced this week to the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program blocking the Environmental Protection Agency's authority to enforce the Clean Air Act has nothing to do with small businesses and won't create jobs. Whether permanent or temporary in their approach, both are simply the latest political stunts designed to hamper the work of an agency that is vital to fostering a 21st century economy.
